SITUATION

With nearly 1,000 crude oil tank terminals across the globe, there are thousands of applications that require positive displacement pump installations to load and unload these tanks. Moving product in and out of railcars, ships, or trucks requires equipment that can completely drain one volume and fill another. The last moments of these application cycles require the pumping equipment to ultimately run dry if the job is to be done successfully.

Historically, because of the "dry run" requirement, many end users are forced to treat loading/unloading pumps as sacrificial. These pumps are typically "bad actors" with a predictable poor reliability performance.

How can we achieve operational success in an application where the goal is to run dry while protecting the mechanical seal at each cycle?
